About BBQ Church and Beer

The South is a mysterious place, shrouded even more by a history that has been revised and edited. A lot of that history hinges on the Civil War, and the fact that, as one historian noted –  the North won the war, but the South won the narrative.

While current events seek to divide our country even more, notably along lines of politics, race, race, and class, the truth is, no matter how we arrived, or our current economic circumstances, we all believe in the core American values set forth in the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Although there are differences in the wealth of cultures that call this country home, as you travel the roads you realize that we all subsist on the same things – food and faith.

There is hope that we can heal, unite, and be stronger than ever – but to heal we have to expose the wounds of the past, understand what the injuries were, and treat them. There will always be scars because history cannot be erased. But scars don’t hurt – they’re just a monument.
